AICRP MAIZE:

  • Year of establishment: 1999
  • Agro-ecological region for which the centre is working:  Across the Chhattisgarh state. The climate of Chhattisgarh is tropical. It is hot and humid because of its proximity to the Tropic of cancer and its dependence on the monsoons for rains.
  • Production constraints of the region:

Rainfed farming (> 80% area), preponderance of low yielding maize land races especially in tribal region and improper input management practices.

  • Thrust areas of research assigned to the Centre by AICRP:

Identification of early and medium duration single cross hybrid of normal and specialty maize.
Development of package practices for kharif and rabi seasons.

In addition, the centre is also involved in dissemination of new technologies to extension personnel & farmers though FLDs and trainings.
